- Millage Rates
Property is taxed according to millage rates assessed by the Richmond County Board of Commissioners and the Richmond County Board of Education.
One "mill" equals $1 of property taxes for every $1,000 of assessed valuation. A mill is one tenth of $0.01 or $1 per $1,000 of assessed value. Millage rates are set by the authorities of each taxing jurisdiction, namely the Richmond County Board of Commissioners and the Richmond County Board of Education.
The amount of these taxes is based on the assessed value of the property less applicable exemptions multiplied by the millage rate. The Tax Commissioner’s Office is the billing and collection entity for the county and plays no part in determining the amounts of any taxes or fees. The rates of several taxing authorities usually combine to make up your total tax bill.
